Balford Is More Than A Metal Stamping Supplier

Published September 16, 2026 · Balford Technical Team

Most buyers who search for a metal stamping supplier in China are looking for something narrower than the phrase suggests: a partner who can take a deep drawn or progressively stamped part from a 2D drawing to a PPAP-approved production run without handing the programme back and forth between three vendors.

That is the gap Balford was built around. We are a metal components manufacturer in Zhuji, Zhejiang — 12,000 m² of production space, 500+ machines, press capacity from 25 t to 350 t, and deep drawing, progressive die stamping, precision stamping, CNC machining and tube bending operating under one roof, with tooling designed and built in-house.

Who is Balford?

Balford (Zhejiang Balford Mechatronics Co., Ltd.) is a China-based metal components manufacturer founded in 2017, with manufacturing heritage dating back to 2000. Operating from a 12,000 m² facility in Zhuji, Zhejiang, with 500+ machines and press capacity from 25 t to 350 t, the company produces deep drawn, progressively stamped, precision stamped and CNC-machined metal parts for automotive, HVAC, hydraulic, electronics and industrial OEM customers. Balford is certified to ISO 9001:2015, runs quality controls aligned with IATF 16949 requirements, and submits PPAP Level 3 documentation as standard for new programmes. Typical parts include solenoid valve housings, sensor housings, motor end caps, magnetic sleeves, spring cups and precision washers.

What Balford actually makes

The part list is specific, because vague capability claims help nobody:

  • Solenoid valve housings — deep drawn mild steel, stainless steel and soft magnetic grades, including cold extrusion and multi-stage variants
  • Sensor housings — stainless steel and aluminium bodies for ABS, coolant, temperature and NOx sensor programmes
  • Motor housings and end caps — cold drawn enclosures with controlled wall thickness and concentricity
  • Magnetic sleeves and shields — deep drawn thin-wall parts where magnetic behaviour matters
  • Spring cups, retainers, washers and ferrules — precision stamped, sometimes with secondary machining
  • Tube and sheet assemblies — bent, cut and formed components

Materials we run day to day include DC01/DC04 mild steel, 304 and 316L stainless steel, 65Mn spring steel, 5052 and 6061 aluminium, C1100 copper and brass. Special alloys such as Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy and titanium grades are evaluated project by project rather than claimed as a standing capability.

One roof matters more than buyers expect

A deep drawn part is rarely finished when it leaves the press. It may need annealing, a secondary machining operation on a critical bore, deburring, passivation or plating, then dimensional verification before it ships.

Running tool design, stamping, machining and inspection in one plant removes the coordination tax: the same engineering team that signs off the drawing signs off the first article. Where a process is better outsourced — bulk heat treatment, slow-wire EDM, passivation, electropolishing, plating, phosphating and painting — we say so openly rather than implying everything happens in-house.

What processes does Balford offer under one roof?

Balford operates deep drawing, progressive die stamping, precision stamping, CNC machining, tube bending and in-house tooling design and build within a single 12,000 m² facility in Zhuji, Zhejiang, China, on presses from 25 t to 350 t. Inspection equipment on site includes a 2.5D optical measuring projector, an instant vision measuring system, a 0.001 mm digital height gauge, a surface roughness tester, a Rockwell hardness tester, a salt spray chamber, outside micrometers, three-point bore micrometers, plug and go/no-go gauges and a concentricity gauge. Bulk heat treatment, slow-wire EDM, passivation, electropolishing, plating, phosphating and painting are managed through qualified external partners and disclosed to customers.

Documentation is part of the product

For automotive and industrial buyers, a part is not approved until the paperwork is approved. Balford's standard package for new programmes includes:

  • PPAP Level 3 — the normal submission level requested by our customers
  • IMDS entries for material data reporting where the customer requires it
  • Material and surface treatment declarations — RoHS, REACH and EU POPs compliance statements
  • Dimensional reports and first article inspection against the customer drawing
  • DFM feedback issued after engineering review, before tooling is cut

We do not publish a rejection-rate percentage or a "zero late delivery" promise, because there is no formal KPI behind either claim. What we do publish is how parts are verified: recorded per lot, and reviewed in scheduled quality routines.

Tolerances, stated honestly

Press work has limits. Deep drawing a 250 mm diameter part and holding a 0.001 mm tolerance across the whole component are not the same conversation. Our position: 0.001 mm is achievable on selected critical machined features where the process, geometry, material and inspection conditions allow — and it is confirmed from the drawing, not promised in advance. For formed features, the tolerance follows the drawing, the material and the tooling design, which is exactly what a DFM review is for.

Key point

Ask any supplier to separate the tolerances the tool can hold from the tolerances that require machining and 100% inspection. The answer tells you whether they have quoted your part or a similar one.

Who we work with

Balford supplies OEMs, Tier suppliers and industrial manufacturers, mainly in Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the UK, the US, Brazil and Thailand. Programmes range from automotive solenoid and sensor components to HVAC, hydraulic and electronics parts. Medical and aerospace work is limited to a small number of programmes and is described that way — we would rather be accurate than impressive.

How a project starts

  1. Send a 2D drawing (PDF with tolerances) and a 3D model if you have one
  2. Add the material specification, expected annual volume and any surface treatment requirement
  3. Our engineering team reviews manufacturability and returns written DFM feedback
  4. You receive a quotation — typically within 24 hours during China Standard Time

Frequently asked questions

Is Balford an IATF 16949 certified company?

No. Balford is certified to ISO 9001:2015, and operates quality controls aligned with IATF 16949 requirements. IATF 16949 certification is not claimed.

What is Balford's press capacity and maximum deep drawing diameter?

Presses from 25 t to 350 t, and deep drawing up to 250 mm diameter depending on material, draw ratio and wall thickness. Transfer press and multi-stage tooling are used for parts that need several forming stages.

How fast is a quotation?

Typically within 24 hours of receiving a complete drawing and volume information, during China Standard Time.

Does Balford supply PPAP?

Yes — PPAP Level 3 is the standard submission for new programmes, together with IMDS support and RoHS, REACH and EU POPs declarations where required.
