DFM, tolerances and quality
Do you have IATF 16949 certification?
Answer
IMDS entry On request, covering base metal, plating and coating layers Inspection report Against the drawing, at the agreed frequency; lot records retained Stated precisely: the quality system is ISO 9001:2015, and automotive process controls are aligned with IATF 16949 requirements. Balford does not claim IATF 16949 certification, an ISO 14001 registration, a defect-rate percentage or a delivery-statistics figure. A 0.01 mm tolerance applies only to selected critical machined features, where process, geometry, material and inspection conditions allow, and is confirmed from the drawing.

What an engineer still needs from you
- material and material condition (grade, temper)
- material thickness, plus the key diameter, height and wall thickness
- tolerances, burr direction and the visual acceptance standard
- annual volume - it decides whether tooling is single-hit, progressive or transfer
- surface finish, and any secondary machining, annealing or plating
Need a DFM feasibility assessment for your project?
Send the engineering drawing (STEP or PDF) with the material grade, thickness and annual volume. Balford engineers then check it against the process window - draw ratio, wall thickness, tolerances, blank and tooling route - and come back with what is feasible and what is not. An answer on this page cannot replace that review.
