Capacity & equipment

Machinery & Equipment List

The numbers buyers ask for first: up to 350 t, deep drawing up to Ø250 mm, transfer, progressive and deep-draw tooling, and a complete in-house tool room that machines, wire-cuts and welds its own dies — with a small furnace kept for emergency die repairs and bulk heat treatment handled by audited partners.

Capacity at a glance. Balford forms deep drawn and stamped metal parts on presses up to 350 t, with a maximum deep draw diameter of Ø250 mm. Transfer, progressive, compound and single-operation tooling are all designed and built in our own tool room, and tooling-related machining, grinding, EDM, welding and maintenance are carried out in-house. A small furnace is kept for emergency die repairs; bulk heat treatment of tooling and all heat treatment of production parts is performed by audited partners, as are slow-wire EDM and specialty finishes.

The tool room, photographed

Every machine in the table above stands in Balford's own tool room in Zhuji, Zhejiang. The photographs below were taken on our shop floor — this is the equipment your dies are built, maintained and repaired on.

Every outsourced finishing partner sits inside Balford’s audited supplier network. Freight, packaging and inspection between our plant and the finishing partner are managed by us, so the customer receives one order, one delivery and one set of documents — and any process change on a finished part runs through PPAP change control rather than being handled informally.

Dimensional inspection runs against the drawing, and inspection records ship with the parts. Because the gauging is in-house, first article inspection, capability studies, PPAP dimensional results and incoming inspection of outsourced finishes are all measured on the same instruments — which is why we can quote a tolerance and then prove it, rather than forwarding a supplier’s certificate.

Frequently asked questions

What is your maximum press tonnage?

Press capacity at Balford runs up to 350 t, which covers deep drawn housings and stamped parts where the required forming force is set by the draw ratio, material grade and wall thickness.

What is the largest diameter you can deep draw?

Maximum deep draw diameter is Ø250 mm. Above that, the limiting factor is usually the draw depth and material rather than the press, so the part is reviewed case by case during DFM.

Which steps are outsourced?

Heat treatment — hardening, tempering, annealing, stress relief and demagnetisation of production parts, plus bulk heat treatment of dies — and slow-wire EDM, passivation, electropolishing, plating, phosphating and painting. Machining, grinding, medium and fast wire EDM, tapping and welding of tooling run in-house, and a small furnace is kept on site for emergency die repairs.

Can I visit the workshop or see the equipment?

Yes. Equipment lists, tool room photos and — for qualified projects — factory visits or video walkthroughs of the press line and tool room can be arranged through the contact form.

What inspection equipment do you use?

A 2.5D optical measuring projector, an instant vision measuring system, a digital height gauge with 0.001 mm resolution, a portable surface roughness tester, a Rockwell hardness tester and a model 20 salt spray chamber, supported by outside micrometers, three-point bore micrometers, inside caliper gauges, plug and go-no-go gauges and a concentricity gauge.
