A bracket holds something in a fixed position, so its value is in the hole positions, not in the shape. Balford cuts, forms, pierces and finishes brackets from sheet metal, with the bend and the hole pattern produced from one datums set.
What we make
Brackets are usually simple parts with tight interface dimensions.
- L brackets, mounting brackets and support brackets
- Brackets with captive nuts, studs, rivet nuts or threaded inserts fitted
- Reinforced brackets with formed ribs or gussets
- Brackets supplied as part of a welded or bolted assembly
The dimensions that decide fit
On a formed bracket the difficulty is never the outline, it is the position of the holes relative to the bend.
- Hole positions referenced to the bend, with the bend allowance fixed by the die set
- Bend radius and reliefs chosen so the part does not crack on the outside of the fold
- Ribs and gussets added where a flat bracket would flex under load
- First article inspection on the interface dimensions before series release
Materials and finish
The finish usually follows the environment the bracket sees.
- Carbon steel CR4 or SPCC, stainless steel 304 and 316L, aluminium 5052 and 6061
- Zinc plating, powder coat, passivation, or bare finish for welding on site
- Thickness from 0.8 mm to 6 mm
- Hardware inserted in house so the bracket arrives assembly ready
