What decides an oxygen sensor housing design?
Three things: the temperature the housing sees (304 for shielded or moderate locations, 310S for the hot gas path), the wall thickness the draw can hold at that diameter and depth, and the two or three dimensions the sensor assembly actually depends on - usually the sealing face and the coaxial diameter.

Geometry rules that keep the draw feasible
- Keep the draw ratio per stage inside what the grade allows; 310S needs more stages than 304.
- Use generous corner radii at the base: a tight base radius is the most common cause of cracking.
- Where the wall must be thinner than the blank, plan ironing rather than an extra draw.
- Put the flange or step where the material still has thickness to form it.
Features worth machining after forming
Sealing faces, threads and bearing seats are usually machined after drawing, because that is where a tight tolerance is really needed. True 0.001 mm resolution applies only to selected key machined features and is confirmed against the drawing; a drawn wall is a formed surface and carries a different tolerance class.
