Deep drawing is used to produce products with seamless, complex shapes. It is a tool-related manufacturing process in which metal is stretched or drawn between two tool halves to create the shape of the intended product.

In deep drawing, one often refers to the drawing ratio. That is, the ratio of the diameter d of the drawing punch to the diameter D of the blank disc (blank).

In the production of deep drawing processes, the properties of the material and its tensile strength are also important and are included in the calculations.

The drawing ratio and the tensile strength of the material determine the manufacturing process. The following factors and procedures must be included in the calculation.

During deep drawing, the material is subjected to forces and stresses that arise within the material. Depending on the load, the material deforms plastically or elastically. At the yield point of the material, it transitions from elastic deformation to plastic deformation. During plastic deformation, work hardening occurs. This material is very difficult to work with, requiring higher stresses to further deform the material.

Therefore, the process for some materials, such as stainless steel, is to form the material by drawing in as few production stages as possible, without the need to relieve stresses in the material between different drawing stages. Produce products faster, more efficiently, and with better quality.
