Every part we quote is reviewed by hand before tooling or machining is planned. On this page we publish examples of that review: what we check, what we found, and what we asked the customer to change. The reports are our own work.
What is shown, and what is not
Product name, raw material, process route and our findings are shown. Customer drawings, part numbers and customer names are not: the samples are anonymised, and the illustrations are drawn by Balford rather than taken from a customer file.
Machining · turning and milling
Parts produced from bar stock, turned and milled, with the tolerances and features that decide whether the process holds capability at production volume.
Stamping and deep drawing
Samples for progressive die, transfer and deep draw work will be published here as the reviews are cleared for release.
Sheet metal fabrication
Samples for laser cutting, bending, tube bending and welded assemblies will follow the same pattern.
Frequently asked questions
Do you publish customer drawings?
No. We publish our own review reports and our own illustrations. Drawings, part numbers and customer names stay out of everything we make public.
What does a DFM review cost?
It is included in the quoting process. Send a drawing and we review it before we quote, so the price reflects a process that can actually run.
What do you need to start a review?
A 2D drawing with tolerances and a 3D model if you have one, plus the annual volume and the target process if it is already decided.
